Jim General Hardware Requirements
Because it is written using the popular
Java programming language,
Jim will run on virtually all modern 64-bit computers.
However, to avoid frustration with a system that is unsatisfactory, there are a few
recommendations:
- Processor. Jim needs a 64-bit processor, and we recommend
a modern computer less than 3 years old.
For some of the more compute-intensive tasks such as image registration, we recommend
a quad-core (or more cores) processor.
- Memory. Jim is fairly memory hungry, and while it will run in 1 GB of memory,
for large datasets, or for optimal performance on heavy computational tasks,
we recommend at least 8 GB.
- Graphics. The display must be set to 24-bits per pixel (true colour), with a recommended
minimum screen resolution of 1280x1024 pixels.
You will need 3-D graphics if you want to use Jim's 3-D display feature.
We recommend graphics cards from Nvidia, but all 3-D graphics cards should work fine.
If you have problems with Jim's 3-D display, or with graphics faults in general,
please go to your graphics card manufacturer's web site and install the latest driver.
- The Jim installation requires approximately 600 MB of disk space. However, you will
require more space to store your images.
