Jim's 3-D Display Capabilities - Introduction

Jim has the capability to display images interactively in a three-dimensional view. It can display various types of three-dimensional image information, and can combine all these types of view into a single composite display. It can display:

• Three orthogonal planes through the data set.
• An extracted iso-intense surface (iso-surface). You set the intensity of the surface you want to display.
• Regions of interest - either as outlines in 3-D space, or as a rendered surface created from the ROIs.
• Almost any object can be displayed if it is defined using one the 3-D solid object modelling formats. Various tools in Jim can create Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML97) object files, including the Brain Finder and the Fuzzy Connector. Here is a good staring point to find out more about VRML97.

You can add as many of these 3-D display elements as you wish (subject to computer memory limitations) to create the view that you want.
